I used to receive gift cards for my birthday and Christmas from my elderly relatives when I was little, and I could spend it in any shop I wanted. They called it money.

My spelling is not bad. I am typing this on a Medigenic keyboard and I blame that for all my typos.

Yes, those were the days. Money - you can't have too much of that fine stuff! whistle

But I suspect that Billy was thinking more about the ... well, what can we call *it? - how about theft? arising from the sudden (although hardly unexpected) demise of such "well-loved" names as HMV, Jessops et al.

Soon our High Streets will just be vacant lots interspersed by the odd "tanning salon", kebab place, a hairdresser's (if you're lucky), and (more than a few) charity shops. frown

RIP Woolworth's, Clinton Cards, JJB Sports, Habitat, Comet ... and any more that I may have overlooked.

BREAKING NEWS:- best not buy any more vouchers from Blockbuster, either!

* Non-redeemable Gift Vouchers purchased only the day before, for example.

What annoys me is when I phoned them, they said that the gift card is deemed an asset with the receivers. I disagree it is my money they have the robbing B*****, all this consumer rights is just bull.

I do agree that if you give a company your money, how do you then become a creditor. The piece of paper you recived in return for the money is effectivekly an IOU.
I suppose this is how accountants earn their money ... and lots of it.

Grandad walks out of HMV with computer games after staff refuse to accept gift voucher

A grandfather who bought his grandson a €40 HMV gift voucher for Christmas took on the store's administrators yesterday – and 'won'.

Eric Nolan, from Tyrellstown, Dublin, strolled out of the HMV on Henry Street with three computer games for his grandson, having failed to persuade shop staff to take the voucher.

Pity that we don't have more assertive folk like that on this side of the Irish Sea* (Billy).

Mind you, if that had been in an English city, no doubt the SWAT team would have been around kicking in the guy's door by now. frown

Just heard one on the radio.

An HMV gift card is not just for christmas its for life.

Uses for your gift card.

Scrapper for the ice on the windscreen.

To stop the table wobbling and spilling our tea.
