I'm not particularly familiar with them, however we currently have Alaris P5000 PCAM devices in our Trust.

Can anyone advise / recommend an equivalent replacement device which is more modern and cost effective?

I know we can still buy the P5000 range, but surely this is pretty old technology nowadays?

Thanks in advance

There is the Graseby 3300 still available!!!! So may be this is not "old" technology.
The latest BBraun pumps can be used for PCA with the appropriate software and safety clamp and I am sure most pump manufacturers will supply a PCA pump.

The Hospira "Gemstar" pump is still going strong and is a good ambulatory version of the PCA type pump. wink

Or if you are going down this route the Smiths CADD pump is well liked.

CME Medical do a PCA pump - Bodyguard 575, we currently use the epidural bodyguard 545 and other than getting CME to revise and replace the rear cases, we have had no major issues and they are well liked in our delivery suite and theatre departments.

The Gemstar is no longer available following the loss of its CE Marking as a result of recent Field Service & MHRA alerts. They offer the Sapphire as a ‘replacement’, although it’s not manufactured by Hospira.

The P5000 is generally well liked, reliable and still available so why change?
