Dear friends,
I have been asked to look into trialing a method of continuously monitoring Cardiac Output using a Swan Ganz catheter. I think the catheter is called an intellicath but I have also heard the term Oxyswan in connection with this. Searching the 'net has yielded the companies Baxter and Edwards as been involved in this but I have been unable to find UK contact details. Can anyone point me in the right direction or provide any furtherv details?

Many thank's

Best wishes

Paul,
a few years ago our hospital looked in to cardiac output and I believe we bought a co module which fitted the old merlin monitor from HP ( now Philips medical) I think that was connected to a swan ganz catheter, so you might try and give philips a ring.

regards
mike

We use Philips Monitors and use a system called PiCCO. This just plugs into the module rack use intellivue monitor. This system is not as invasive as swan ganz catheter and needs a CVP line and femoral line to get results.

Pulsion Medical, Tel: 01895 455255 or www.pulison.com

Pulsion provides Philips with technology to do this.

There is also a stand alone unit which is the Picco Plus.

If any one wants their local rep to give them a call let me know,(will get me some brownie points)

Thank you to all who responded. I have found that it is the Edwards Vigilance Cardiac Output Monitor that we are interested in.

Best wishes

Hi,

This is the closest I found regarding the PiCCO2 (Pulse Contour Cardiac Output).

I'm interesting in clinical/engineering data regarding the validity of the device.
(volume and temperature injected, delta T and Extra Vascular Lung Volume values ).

I have the device manuals and papers but interested in the real hospital information.

thanks!

A Swann-Ganz catheter is for thermal dilution one off measurement.
The PiCCO system seems to have become the default standard for Continuous CO.
It has been used in all the hospitals I have worked in.
PiCCO is a system devised by Pulsion I know Philips have a module and I would not be surprised if other monitor manufacturers do. You can also get stand alone PiCCO monitors.

My spelling is not bad. I am typing this on a Medigenic keyboard and I blame that for all my typos.
