Hi, as far as I can tell, most of the existing health facility systems use existing WiFi infrastructure and as such use "active" tags rather than passive ones. The only addition detectors/receivers needed then are if you want to have "pass through" senors/alarms at doorways and the like. There are also bluetooth based systems available such as Tracker. Dave
Thoughts and information provided on this forum are mine and mine alone and do not necessarily reflect the policy of NSW Health. They may also be complete bollocks!!

We should have such a system ...
Why? Also, it seems that you forgot these two, Mika:- Proxmark * TasticThinking about using BlueTooth? Maybe you need to think again. See also Jonathan Westhues ... who seems to be the Guru on this stuff. * There's some good stuff on that website.

Has anyone got RFID tags on their medical assets ?
Do they affect the performance of the medical device if placed in close proximity or stuck on the unit ?

Many UK hospitals have them. They should not interfere with the functioning of the device (especially if they are the passive type) ... unless, of course, you stick them across the "Off" button or something daft like that!

I should imagine that manufacturers have considered all that, Andy ... and (hopefully) system suppliers will have, too. Otherwise, take a look at the frequencies involved. And (or) if you're lucky enough to be well-endowed with nice test equipment, carry out some tests with a Spectrum Ananlyzer!* * Something I have always wanted, but could never afford.

Meanwhile ... "Harland-Simon in Administration" (probably why the links no longer work).

Thanks for that, Huw. It's good that they've bounced back.
