I’m just doing an information gathering query.

Does your organisation allow technicians to eat at their work benches?

Also officially "no" but some have a tea or coffee on the go with an occasional snack to go with it. Talking of which, best go and get my first tea of the day!

Thoughts and information provided on this forum are mine and mine alone and do not necessarily reflect the policy of NSW Health. They may also be complete bollocks!!

As the person responsible for H&S policy I said no definitely not as contamination is a real issue especially in the hospital I worked in was not that good at ensuring equipment was clean. Since I have left this has now been abolished I believe !

Initially we were allowed but it was later prohibited due to an unfortunate pest control situation.

Poisoning mice with left-overs? whistle

Eating at the workbench has always been frowned upon, for obvious reasons.

Myself, I was always happy to at least step away from the workbench (or better still, the workshop) for a few minutes - especially when others seemed to spend many hours outside each week smoking! frown

And on that topic, I am old enough to remember blokes smoking (pipes, even) in the workshop. You know, dropping fag ash onto circuit boards, etc., etc.

Most non-hospital workshops (industrial units and the like) these days have a little kitchen or tea-room tucked away, or a least a kettle off to one side away from the workbenches. smile

If you don't inspect ... don't expect.

Curious. What is everyone’s departmental sickness record for gastrointestinal issues say from dates 1/7/17 to 7/11/17?
