Seeking Integration Guidance for Biolight BLT V6 – Data Output Protocol / SDK / HL7 Support

Hello everyone,

I am looking for some guidance regarding integration of the Biolight BLT V6 Vital Signs Monitor with an external software system for real-time triage automation. This is part of a non-commercial initiative aimed at improving workflow efficiency in a high-volume clinical environment.

Objective:

We need to capture live vital parameters (NIBP, SpO?, HR, TEMP, etc.) from the BLT V6 and automatically forward them into a triage/HIS application, instead of manual entry by clinical staff.

What we know so far:

The BLT V6 offers LAN (RJ-45) and RS-232 serial interfaces.

From preliminary information, it appears the device outputs proprietary ASCII or binary frames, not HL7/FHIR.

The intention is to parse the device stream and convert it into HL7 ORU messages (or similar), which the receiving system can ingest.

What we need help with:

Does anyone have experience integrating the BLT V6 with external software?

Is there an official SDK, communication protocol, or interface specification available from Biolight for the BLT V6 series?

Is it typically easier to interface through the Biolight central station software, or directly via LAN/serial?

Any advice on:

Expected data frame structure

Recommended approach for parsing

Known pitfalls when extracting real-time vitals from this device

Middleware you’ve used (e.g., Mirth, custom gateway, etc.)

This work is entirely non-commercial, focused on improving clinical efficiency and safety. Any documentation, experience, or pointers from those who have previously integrated Biolight monitors, or similar vital signs devices, would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time and expertise.

Kind regards,
Khalid

Welcome to the forum Khalid.

I believe that your best chance of success would be to connect up the monitors to a central monitoring system (probably from the same manufacturer).

To be honest I expect you shall have difficulty in sourcing accurate information regarding the data frames.

As an aside, I would say we are considering an "observation" or "monitoring" scenario, rather that "triage" per se.

Lastly I notice you have generated responses on Facebook and ChatGPT which each contain (what I would regard as) useful and wise information.

If you don't inspect ... don't expect.

Have a look to see if the manufacturers offer an integration engine for this exact purpose, by triage i'm guessing you mean like a central monitoring station like Geoff says above? if no luck there are many third party ones that exist, that deal with all kinds of types of frames for HIS but it really does depend on many factors and what's best for you.
