Yes, I've seen this also Robert. It makes me think of the 'World Series' played only in the USA.

I wonder who conceives of these ideas and who gets any input into them?

This reminds me of an episode of the Simpsons where a card company decides to make more money by introducing a new national celebration day called "Love Day" (similar to Mothers Day, Fathers Day and valentines day).
