Since the recent MHRA report regarding flowmeters, we have been trying to set up a basic operational check for all flowmeters and bottle regulators. We have no problems with medical air devices, but we are having great difficulty in finding a small handheld device for checking Oxygen flow. The only things that work are the large calibration analysers but these are too bulky to carry around the various departments. Has anyone else had this problem or has anyone come up with a suitable solution?

Robert,
We bought several test flowmeters from
ROXSPUR MEASUREMENT & CONTROL,
2 DOWNGATE DRIVE
SHEFFIELD
S4 8BT
TEL 0114 244 2521
The O2 reads 0 - 25lpm and cost £69.50 a year ago.
Its a simple no valve flowmeter with bobbin to which you can attach a tube at the input end.
The part number was NG1B211+GTFZAHS-P.
They do a complete range for whatever gas / flow you want. wink

There are two solutions I can think of:
1. Use your air flowmeter and multiply the results by the ratio of desities of air and oxygen. I am not going to quote figures as I do not know them and do not want to lead you astray but I am sure there are tables with them on.
2. The Platon Flowbits people - who are now part of Roxspur Measurement and Control - sell lots of different flowtubes, bobbins etc. You can either get a tube marked from 1 to 10 and lookup tables for different gases (you need to know what range you want to measure) or you can get specific tubes. They also do lab sets of a frame. different tubes and bobbins and lots of lookup tables for many common gases. This is a useful general pupose tool.
