Anyone offering Clinical Engineering or medical Physics apprenticeships?

My Step son turned 18 in July and was due to take up a place at University in Salford to study for Prosthetics. He has put that on hold for now in consideration for an apprenticeship in a technical field.

He has good a-level results and keen to start straight away. In anyone knows of an apprenticeship scheme being offered please do let me know so I can pass on the details.

Many thanks in advance.

Just to clarify that it is a Clinical engineering or medical Physics apprenticeship he is interested in. He wants to look at a wider career in perhaps clinical engineering. Not sure if there are any NHS apprenticeships set up and running yet but I may be wrong.

Hi,

I found out from my stand for Proactive Technical Training at the Estates conference that there is a healthcare apprenticeship in the North East region. Each apprentice seems to be employed by different Trusts but there is a central team who oversee the scheme.

I have the central contact name and email address but I'm bit worried about data protection and sharing because they gave that to me at the show - we need to contact this person.

I don't know the full title of the scheme so maybe a bit of smart googling will help? If I find anything out I'll put the link up on here. It's the first I've heard of one. Times aren't great in the NHS but this is a glimmer.

Just did a quick search and there seems to be plenty of info on this - guess you've already searched but just in case -

https://www.stepintothenhs.nhs.uk/apprenticeships

https://www.gov.uk/topic/further-education-skills/apprenticeships

https://www.gov.uk/apply-apprenticeship

Interesting to note that the application side is on .GOV

Dave, we have quite a mature modern apprenticeship program in our Medical Equipment Management Dept in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. We are on our 3rd cohort of MA's now, with the first of these now having made the transition to Band 5 Practitioners. For the 1st year, the apprentices attend a local FE college full time to attain an HNC in Electronic Eng, and then a further 2 years day release to gain an HND, augmented by on the job training. Due to the part-funding from the government we wont be starting recruiting till probably about January.
The program has so far been very successful

So if your stepson can wait and doesn't mind a move north he might want to consider applying to us.
