OK - I did expect some misunderstandings! And perhaps I should say don't read this while eating your lunch
Neuromantics sound like anxious Adam and the Ants fans...
As for the sensations;
The probe is a bit like a TENS unit, where the whole idea is to give small electric stimuli and gradually increase the intensity to see how sensitive the patients' nerves are. It helps, as far as I can gather, to decide how best to deal with incontinence problems. If the patient has sensitivity, then there is a chance of retraining the muscles. If not, I suppose there must be a surgical procedure available.
According to the very nice lady who does the tests, most patients are elderly women who never did their pelvic floor exercises after giving birth (if indeed such things were reccommended then). They have lived with the consequences for years, until they need personal help and their carers tell them it isn't "normal" to have to grin and bear it.
If you hold the CLEANED probe in your fingers, you can usually feel the pulses at 4 microamps, but apparently some patients cannot feel the stimulus (with the probe in its normal place!) at 99...
I did warn you about the lunch thing.
So - anyone got any useful contact info?
