Hi

I am an MTO in radiation protection and for the last 10 years or so, I have been involved in the routine testing (but not maintenance) of physiotherapy ultrasound and lasers.

The head of physiotherapy has now accepted that we need to put together a business case to replace a number of ageing ultrasound and laser units (some are >20 years old). She has kindly co-opted me onto the equipment selection panel.

I would be grateful to hear the views anyone may have regarding maintenace/quality control issues with the following brands:

- EMS (Medilink, therasonic, solo, laser)
- Omega lasers
- Enraf (sonopuls both the 400 and 500 series)
- Physiomed (acusonic, all lasers)
- Thor (all lasers)

As we are at an early stage, I am willing to take recommendations for suppliers not listed. We would like to stick to one supplier/brand for each modality to make maintenance/training easier.

I'm trying to avoid battery powered kit 'cos no one seems to remember to charge it and past experience makes me wary (naff chargers, poor battery life, poor battery status indication, poor battery durabiliy etc. etc. etc....)

All private responses will be taken in the strictest confidence and will only be available to myself and the superintendant cencerned.
