Nothing to do with medical equipment, but does anyone know the company website or have any information on the Acos "Lustre" pickup arm ?

I fitted one to a Connoisseur BD1 belt driven turntable several years ago and need a new magnetic cartridge for it because the stylus isn't available for the Ortofon cartridge I have at present. I know there are several factors to take into account when matching a cartridge to an arm, but I can't find the specification sheet for the arm any more (the wife probably tidyed it up confused )

Any Vinyl fans still out there ?

Roy,
Have you let you fingers do the walking? I use a local (proper) HiFi shop. Proper HiFi shops usually only deal in quality gear you won't find in currys, still stock turntables, and can offer good advice.

I've got hundreds of Vinyls and a very nice JVC turntable. Most of my stuff is blues and 70s rock.
Although i have found a second hand vinyl dealer in the local market house with a considerably large stock. I bought a very nice Purple vinyl version of Made in Japan. smile

Look up BADA on the web, the British Audio Dealers Association, they should point you to your local dealer.

Try www.hifistore.co.uk or www.hifibitz.co.uk

Both these site have a wide of MM or MC cartridge.

Even ebay has a good range to look at. Vinyl is still the best way to listen to music.

Thanks chaps !

My local "Hi-Fi" shops consist of Richer Sounds (who hadn't heard of Acos or Connoisseur and suggested I should buy a new turntable), Comet (who wanted to sell me a DVD player) and Curries (who didn't have the slightest idea what I was talking about).

I've tried "hifistore" and "hifibitz" and both say they don't recognise my existing Ortofon cartridge (so can't supply a stylus) and didn't pass any comment about the pickup arm.

CPC can supply cartridges but have no idea what is compatible with the arm. They mainly seem to do DJ stuff - and I don't want to scratch any of my beloved collection !

I've sent an e-mail to BADA - so we'll see what happens !

Thanks for that Aston Martin, I now know that Acos was a trade name for Hi-Fi stuff manufactured by Cosmocord in the UK (in Enfield). I thought Acos was a Japanese company ! You live and learn.

Unfortunately they were taken over by a plastics company who withdrew from this part of the market in the '80s and their site makes no mention of this type of equipment.

Oh well. rolleyes

Perhaps BADA will come up with some help.

Thanks guys.

Roy,
Looks like there's no short way around the wallet here.
Will a newer MM or MC head not fit the arm?
Sadly, you may need to think about a new arm. SME do great ones at reasonable prices. Or consider a used SME/LINN, etc. Or consider a new t/table. Project start at about £120, and pack a real punch for the pound! Or again there's the second hand route - Axis , LP12, Roksan, Pink Triangle (remember them??), etc.

I bought my valve equipment used from Midland Audio Exchange, very helpful.

I hope you succeed. I've got a 'Glanz' cartridge that I can't find a stylus for, so am using my trusty old Goldring.

Wow ! There's stuff there I've never heard of ! "Glanz" for instance. That's a wind up, surely ?

I've chased up BADA again (still no response) and left a message for Midland Audio - thanks for that Mike - so I'm still hopeful.

I remember selling an elderly gentleman a Linn deck during my brief time at Dixons after leaving Uni. A beautiful piece of engineering but wildly expensive. The senior salesman had persuaded the manager to get one in, after several long discussions, but then was unlucky enough to be on his day off when "the customer" walked in ! He was not a happy bunny ! ! The commission on that sale set me up for Christmas, as I remember laugh

Dixons sold Linn! That should have been a headline somewhere...
No wind up - it really is called a Glanz. It had an elliptical stylus; at least that was the theory - I can't find one!!

Hope you're search produces results.

I worked on Millenium night - Y2K and all that. That night alone bought me a new pair of Monitor Audio Silver 5i, cables and everything!
Good old NHS...

Thanks Aston Martin. Incidently BADA did get back to me and supplied the names of a couple of "local" dealers, but they were quite a way away and didn't appear to have a Web site. They are worth bearing in mind for future reference though ;-

Thanks guys.
