I have two new ultrasound machines in a breast screening department that are showing intermittent colour noise. From the users description it sounds very much like the interference is coming from an external rf source. I have used many years ago a portable radio on both fm and am bands to find such noise sources. My question to you all is has anybody found any other equipment apart from a spectrum analyser (which I don't have!) useful to track down such problems. Thanks in advance.

Have you visited the site since the problem(s) began?

Sometimes the source of the problem can be obvious (and may well be so in this case). That is, something "staff related".

(don't forget to take the radio(s) with you)!

My other tip would be:- does the problem still manifest itself "after hours" (and during the night)? Probably not, would be my guess. smile

But two machines? What do they have in common, I wonder? think

Has anyone tried them in another location (or nearby room)?

And ... can we assume a decent earth?

If you don't inspect ... don't expect.

Does your unit connected to UPS? Such problem might also be the result of RF interferrence comming trough Power lines. If it is connected to UPS, is it double convertion type or not?. I have encountered that problem before and i have solved it by intalling a double convertion type UPS, another option is to install a 60/50 HZ line filter on power source...
