Just to come back a step (I haven't read these pages for a couple of days and so I'm catching up).
The Cape-Warwick ventilator Mk. 1 - 4 was built by Cape Engineering in Warwick. Their main line of business was tank warfare!!!!!
The ventilator was built in collaboration with the anaesthetists at the King Edward VII Hospital, Warwick and it used spare parts from a variety of sources (as previously mentioned) including a bicycle chain.
The Cape-Waine anaesthetic ventilator was a Cape-Warwick ventilator with the Waine anaesthetic head incorporated into it (or on it to be more precise). Dr. Waine (affectionately known as Curly due to his lack of hair!!) was an anaesthetist who worked at Warwick and then at the Walsgrave Hospital, Coventry where I had the good fortune to work with him.
However, it quickly became apparent that he hadn't got a clue how the Waine anaesthetic head was put together and was always asking his assistant (me in some cases) to fix various bits that were not functioning correctly.
I also had the pleasure of working with Dr Morrett who designed the Morrett anaesthetic head (if any of you can remember that one).
