During WWII the British were seriously going to adopt the US system so that we were able to help each other out with repairs and parts etc, the reverted back to the BA system, at least they standardised on one system (well nearly) rather that having Whitworth, Cycle thread etc.
Now we are a global market it would ne nice to have a global standard. When referring to the US I was meaning all metric measurements, i.e. use litres or liters instead of their version of the gallon, and they still use bushels and peck.
I do not really mind which system it is as long as it is one.

I know a certain German manufacturer of medical equipment when it bought up its similarly named US counetrpart started to assemble their equipment in the US had to have to seperate production line running side by side but no tool or fastening was to cross the line as half was assembling the German metric equipment and half was assembling the original US designed equipment.
