I'm surprised to hear you suggesting such national beaurocracy, Geoff! Wouldn't it be easier to keep the local system, but add a label for (hospital name and phone number?)

Hospital Name & Phone number?, why not the post code, very easy to find especially if you use google maps.
One label. hospital name, bar-code, asset number and the post code. very simple.
