Hi Guys

I have received an email this morning from the Key Accounts Engineer at Bruel and Kjaer replying to the issues I have mentioned on here. I promised to pass on his message so that you can see both sides of the situation. I do not know why he cannot post it himself, but I know some companies tell their staff they must not communicate on here, so please do not read more into this than that.

The reply was that they do not hold equipment to ransom, and that there should have been no problem at all with returning the equipment uncalibrated.

He said that the 2260 model sound level meter they sell is now old technology which actually makes it more expensive than their newer models to build and support.

He explained that they do not publish a price list because there are several reasons why customers might not be charged the full rate, such as educational discount or trade-in discounts.

He also said that once a device has been repaired the calibration chain has been broken and needs to be re-established with a traceable calibration.

And he points out that performing calibrations costs the company in time and equipment.

On all these points I can agree with him. I will take up with him why I had such a struggle when I was trying to get my sound level meter back.

I still think their prices are rather expensive, but that is a discussion for another day! smilewink

He gets top marks in my book for taking the time to respond, and I hope this has a positive benefit all round.
