May I say what an excellent post Chris has made concerning electrical testing of portable appliances. My personal view is that most of it has become a sham and much of it is unnecessary whilst other more important elements are ignored. It seems mistaken to me that most hospitals will be more concerned in testing the appliance and care little about the IEC lead. In my experience it is the mains lead that is the weak point of all portable appliances and integrity of the earth continuity together with a thorough visual inspection will weed out 99% of dangerous occurances.
