There are more ways than one to skin a cat (to coin a phrase), but you are lucky to be in Singapore, where the local markets will no doubt be over-flowing with interesting kit like DVD recorders (with HD drives), for example, which you may wish to consider using.
Depending on the format you want to play with (er, I mean view the images under) ... you may need to think about stuff like
