A long time since anyone mentioned this topic but i'm a newcommer and I've been having the same problems.
I could get the ODBC to work on one machine that was just running a single user version of HECS. I could create queries in Excel and export data perfectly. I could then run the the saved queries on a 25 user machine without any problem. However trying to run the saved qury on the original machine, now setup for 25 user, it wouldn't work.
I solved the problem by copying the sql.ini file from the working machine onto the problem machine. I also had a seperate folder in the route directory named hecsodbc. Once I had renamed this folder (ie took it out of action) all worked fine. It is also important to ensure that all the databases you have are listed in the sql.ini file.
