You are right lee..I think use the same technology in perfuser fm.In the drive head there are two Opto-isolator.

One opto-isolator use to detect the tip of the syringe and the other function as to detect the finger head drive.

I wish if someone had the same problem on B Braun perfusor fm(SYRINGE ALARM)after a few seconds that is switched ON.
