I would agree with Geoff, until the person who did our home-brew left and we had pick up the pieces, not easy.
Ask yourself what you want from a database. I have used SEMS which has a lot of information stored and retrievable and HECS which I feel is much for user or technician friendy but does not have all the detailed data storage.
You have to make the decission, we can only advise what we have found is good for our needs.
