I have had many issues with the canon transducer. No dropped crystals but strain gauge is apparently the cause of artifacts.

PVI-705BX (no apparent crystal damage but huge band artifact)
PVI-475BX (Strain gauge artifacts, if you move the strain gauge location causes distortion)
