From my understanding of the manual and working on the machines, matched pairs purely means a similar age of battery I.E batteries with the same shelf life. The CS2 machine does not like batteries of different ages as this can mean they have differing current ratings and this could throw up a battery error.
I do not see why you cant get batteries from a third party supplier.
