This takes me back to the days of working at another trust and being one of the first casualties of the then newly formed CQC. We got picked up for the same thing, wasn't a problem before as we were never asked to inspect them. But now almost every trust cleans the larger mattresses but forget about the smaller trolley ones. The trolleys get hammered as shelves, storage, Needle holder, transport device, and maybe every now and then you might see a patient on them, normally for about 24 hours down a corridor.
We ended up having an inspection schedule drawn up for weekly checks. Simply grade what is suitable (photo on the wall helps) and what is classed as replaceable. They do get run through the hedges and not uncommon the be replaced several times over a year. Normally just the cover and Anetic Aid will be able to do you a deal on those.
