Our Trust has proposed introducing car parking charges for all staff commencing January 2006. I would be interested to know which other Trusts impose such charges and how much each individual is charged.
Any other details would help as well, as management are holding "consultation" meetings to obtain opinions and objections as well as alternative suggestions.
Apparently this is all to tie in with the Government's drive for reducing the number of cars utilising the road system. As a result there are going to be a reduction in the number of car parking spaces and management are looking at ways to reduce the number of cars coming on site.

Car parking charges were introduced about 14 months ago, £4/month for standard £12/month for premium (closer to the hospital buildings).

Car parking charges were imposed at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth about 8 years ago charging £8.92 pounds /month if salary deducted or 50p per day if paying at the barrier. The charges were supposed to go to the upkeep of the staff carparks, whether they did or not I don't know. There were also no new car permits issued to new staff from that date. We are a large hospital in a difficult to get to area which has compounded the problem and car parking here now,in the main, is a nightmare.

At Colchester, 0.15% of pensionable pay direct from salary, no guarantee of parking space - but they take the money anyway!

We've paid to park for yonks. The cost of a permit was dependant on payscale.
My Trust has recently signed over its carparks to a company called QParks. We are having a new,PFI, multistorey carpark built by them.
We don't get issued with a permit if we live within approx 2 miles of the hospital.
Also, the Trust provides a number of staff park and ride buses(£10 per month) servicing various routes in to the hospital. If someone lives on one of these routes they don't get an onsite permit.
Onsite permits cost £14.00 per month by Direct Debit. We get issued with a permit and a barrier swipe-card for staff carparks. Public carparking costs 70p an hour.
There is no free parking provided for anyone, staff or public.

I noticed from this and other threads that the NHS tends to charge its staff for parking.
It is a while since I worked in industry but then the staff carpark was seen as a right and was free.
Does anyone know of factories or other places of work with similar numbers of staff to a hospital who charge their staff to park on site?

We used to pay just under £6 per month (deducted from salary) it has now gone up to £10 per month.

The problem is there is never ever any where to park so you end up parking in hatched off areas or disabled bays etc and then spend the day being requested to move your car!

I have to leave for work 15 mins early so that i can find an illegal parking space.

Not that i am bitter and twisted or anything

If hospitals charge the visitors of patients, then they have to charge the staff.
If not then this would be a perk of the job.

I do not agree with any parking charges, as the people that are charged have already paid for the facility through taxes (as have you). so the only winner is the parking company, Ok care in the community can work!!!
