I'm afraid your wrong Robert. Dentists can, and do give general anaesthesia, as long as they have undergone the specialist training required, are registered, have the "correct" facility and have the appropriate assistant(s).
In fact the number of general anaesthetics given in dental practice has been steadily rising since 1998 when the first audit was undertaken and guidelines were issued. Although the guidelines stipulate that alternative methods of sedation should be sought, general anaesthesia is recommended for certain groups of patients.

Take a tip from an Old Sweat. Combine getting your teeth fixed (or anything else, for that matter) with a trip to, for example, the Philippines. Last time I got my teeth sorted it was in a desert town in Saudi Arabia. Just walked straight in, zero waiting, and paid in cash at the end of it. A bit like getting a haircut. Cheap enough, of course, and a very gentle Egyptian lady dentist. Can anyone else recommend a decent location for a spot of bodily maintenance? smile

I thought that the costs and practicalities of having an anaesthetist present plus the cost of providing the required resus equipment was going to stop dentists from being able to give a G.A.
This is what the "hard up" dentists were saying after the Poswillo report came out in 1990.
Obviously they were mistaken and so am I.

Dentists can be frustrating. You wait a month-and-a-half for an appointment, and they say, "I wish you'd come to me sooner." laugh

My spelling is not bad. I am typing this on a Medigenic keyboard and I blame that for all my typos.

The headline in our local paper today is

£100,000+ income of one in three dentists

It goes on to say "A third of Scotlands dentists are earning between £100,000 and £250,000 a year on the NHS as record numbers of patients are having their state-funded treatment withdrawn"

It goes on to say three earned over £500,000 on the NHS!

So wheres the problem?

Rod

Hey just seeing all these luxury sights to visit has me hatching a plan.

Save the money per month that you have to pay the thieving dentists to stay on their books. Use the money to get a budget flight somewhere preferably hot see a dentist on your terms. See the plan yet, your mouth may hurt but the sun an beer will take away the pain.
Think I will go to Germany for some christmas shopping, Holland is another good location and they usually all speak english.
