We pay £36 a year - that does not guarantee us a space, carpark surface is gravel/mud. Money is suppossed to go towards improving the carparks?? Haven't seen anything change at all in the 2 yrs we have been paying. We are NOT allowed to use the public car parks, unless staff parks full, then we have to pay the normal public rate to pay.

Disabled memebers of public also expected to pay to park in some of the spaces.
Also as part of our contract we must have our own car and insure it for class 1 business use.

Are you sure your contract obliges you to provide an insured car, ajcs? If you are on Whitley or AfC, then you have a nationally agreed contract and your hospital cannot impose its own local terms and conditions. On the other hand, if you do have to bring your car in, and if you refuse to pay parking charges and your hospital prevents you from driving in, or clamps/fines you, then it is in breach of the contract which you and the hospital have agreed. What did the union say about this? I know confrontation can be difficult when we are made to feel that our jobs will be on the line if we are seen as troublemakers, but situations such as this are clearly unjust.

Strength with generosity brings respect. Weakness and inconsistency only invite abuse. Stand firm and never allow yourself to become a victim. Sometimes you have to remind others how you want to be treated. Tibi fidelis! smile

I think you had better check with your insurance company that the "for business use" actually covers the cost of equipment that you carry. I think you will find that it doesn't and it only covers your vehicle and 3rd party property when you go from place to place while you at work. If my memory serves me correctly, this 3rd party property is other cars, walls etc and not specific equipment carried. After all if you add up the cost of your test equipment and maybe some medical devices, it probably adds up to more than the value of the average small car. they tried to get us to sign up for this responsiblity in both the NHS jobs I have done and after checking with several insurance companies, none would cover equipment carried belonging to someone else.
