I was referring to the Jebel Ali Free Trade Zone in Dubai. See http://www.jafza.co.ae/jafza/

And, yes, Nick, we all should (at least one in our “career”). What other use is a person to make of his (or her) life? A wise man once said “Do something that makes a difference, rather than something that is safe or easy to do”!

Not many rabbits in Khartoum, though, I wouldn't have thought. smile

Thanks Huw and Geoff, no never heard of it or been there either - shame on you nick! Actually, I woke up this morning (Monday) and it suddenly hit me that I really might have missed a joke here and rushed to work to get onto EBME before you would have time to get to yours at work. As it occured to me that it might have been an expatriate's way of referring to places i.e a street perhaps where shady bak-sheesh (sorry for the spelling if it is a touch wrong!) and cully-wully deals are struck! Ali as in up Jebel's Alley. But thankfully I was not caught out - this time!!

Actually Geoff, if you had paid more attention in your history class at school you would have remembered that the Mahadi ordered that all rabbits be exterminated around the outer perrimeter and inner-city of Khartoum trying to starve out General Gorden and his merry men. He knew that we have been known eat rabbits in England and that being a resourceful Peoples would survive any siege as long as we had these furry friends to live on. My teacher then went on to say that is how Gorden met his end finally, due to Miximitosis!! Happy Mew Year

Huw, you always were the one we came to for final editing and proof-reading. However Mahdi I knew but I got it wrong on the type-writer and miximitosis was the typ-writer's fault!! You must understand that my mother (94 this year) is monitoring my writing on this site avidly for spelling mistakes but she had failed to pay the telephone bill this last quater and unfortunatly was cut orrf. Othersize she would have alerted me long before you had even got out of bed! You may remember me telling you too that I always was known for my poor spelling. As one of my school reports said once " he tries hard". And still at nearly 60 I am doing just that. Please cut an "old codger" some 'slack' here and there as he does mean well!

P.S. as for Ham in the Dilly Lah, it might add some flavour but you of all people know that Ham is, and never was, in the Magic Kingdom except in the dim and distant past maybe at parties in Al Kharj, and definitely during the Gulf War, courtesy of the Yank's Commissariat. Oh happy days!

PPS, How about putting a spell-check attached to this message board??

I seem to have cocked this one up as at around 6am today I quickly saw "Hi Nick" and finally "Huw" (obviously not the 'Hi' of course) at the bottom, and my mind was flooding with ideas for a smart retort to you Huw. Appologies, though it could well have come from you, couldn't it! Have to say that I was curious about "The Magic Kingdom" as a reference to Saudi, as nobody calls it that here!!

Tony, I never was into diving here. My time is electronics, my 4 by 4's maintenance and desert weekends camping. The latter two are almost extinct past-times as all my camping friends have gone home and I am about to sell the old gal!

Cheers

Nick,
I'm sorry - I am completely mystified by these posts.
Are you telling me that you saw a post ostensibly from me criticising your spelling?

I was working on the site until well past 2am this morning and I saw no such post.

Or was this an email?
If it was, can you send it to me? As I'd like to take a closer look at the headers.

If you are wondering about the smiley wink above - that was in answer to Tony Ds question about scuba diving.

Can you clarify please?
By the way - I have never used the term Magic Kingdom, never!

Hi Huw, See the message before yours above, it should clafify the message you first saw 20 mins ago. My computer showed me page one and I did not realize that my message this morning was on page 2 until I retrieved my message to edit it and then found it re-opened it up on page 2 instead. So then I had to edit again when I saw my morning's message that you had not infact deleted. So I answered it just now thinking you had realized that I had got it wrong and were saving me any embarrasement by deleting it this morning.
