We have a couple of engineers who have x-ray experience, one whom is now full time in this area. There are many savings to be made but some not as visible as it seems. A simple lamp change in the lbd (light beam diaphram) can be undertaken by us in house saving a £xxx call out. Some of our contracts are still fully comp but they (the companies) discount if first line fault finding is done by us. Its not as much a black art as we think!

There was a attempt a few years ago to set up a regional service under the Regional Medical Physics banner. They tried to recruit engineers from the X-Ray companies - but everything suddenly went very quiet and we never did get a regional service !

I don't believe you can give a full service on all the equipment in just a hospital, you would have to throw the net wider. I doubt if it could be just one or two people either, because there is such a wide range of stuff by different manufacturers. You would also have to offer a 52 week / year cover.

Today is the day you worried about yesterday - and all is well !
