My PCT is looking to replace its ambulatory infusion device stock (MS16s and 26As)can anyone recommend a suitable replacement. The ones available in the market look similar to MS pumps.

I have heard from a friend working in the midlands who tells me that Alaris have something new in the pipeline that could be launched in the near future. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

It's true, Cardinal Health (Alaris) are launching it soon and I've been told that this new pump will be available around January. It has pressure monitoring, an event log, a lockable cover...

Can't wait to see it too. Try calling your Alaris rep- I'm sure they will be more than happy to come in and give you a demonstration!

At Portsmouth we have just trialed the McKinley T34 and Crono Standard Ambulatory Infusion Pumps.
For hospital based patients, the T34 is ideal and provides many safety features as well as programs.
I would recommend the Crono as an alternative for home based patients where you just need to provide a fixed volume over a fixed period of time. The only down side is that you have to purchase the dedicated syringes for the Crono.
I have seen pictures of the "new" Alaris pump and it looks good. I understand that they are awaiting CE approval which should occur in December.
If you want anymore details on the two pumps we trialed, please send me a private message.

Thanks to you all for your responses. I have had a number of private emails which have been helpful.

Has anyone else actually seen the new Alaris pump?

I have taken your advice, spoke to Alaris who have now allowed me to look at the new Ambulatory pump. Very interesting , modern looking and seems to have many well thought out safety features. Has anybody else SEEN one?

Yes, but with the old version of sortware and with a directions for use for the new software.
Alaris are making it more like their Asena style of pumps. At the moment the menu is not in a logical order.
Most impressed but I wonder how many features will be imediately implemented and how many are planned.
Well worth a look though.
Robert

PS. It will be called the Asena AD.

My spelling is not bad. I am typing this on a Medigenic keyboard and I blame that for all my typos.

Also Braun are currently in the final stages of developing the version of this kind of pump, according to our local rep.

We have just made the decision to replace our MS26 pumps with the McKinley T34 pumps.
Having said that, we are still looking to trial the new Alaris pump as a possible long term solution.
