The largest Unions have not yet accepted the proposal, sorry Roy you have that wrong.

You cannot impose what is essentially a partnership agreement.

The 'them' and 'us' senario days are, under this agreement over.

You have your vote, don't think it won't make a difference, it will.

I thinks what Roy is getting at is what I have said in an earlier post. The RCN and UNISON are both big fans of AfC as it benefits the majority of their membership, they are encouraging members to return a Yes vote.

Unfortunately for us they are the two biggest unions in the NHS.

As you may note the Unions had a big hand in negiotiating the terms of AfC, I imagine Unison and the RCN probably dominated the staff side representations. It is not in their interest to reject something that they had a hand in developing.

The second Amicus ballot has been set for the 21st of October. When the local rep was asked how you were supposed to vote on something you had no information about his reply was "Do you really want to vote for a pig in a poke ?" It seems that at local level nobody wants this deal but the big guys at the top of the union don't want to lose face by supporting the call to vote it down. I certainly know which way I will be voting and it won't please the guys at the top.

I would say the local Rep is ill informed.

If you don't have enough informaton at 'local level' you need to ask your rep for it, if that doesn't happen contact your national officer.
The DOH web site is full of information about it.

The problem is,I suspect, nobody knows which band they are going to be in.

You can view the national profiles on the DOH website.

It is all down to your job description. This must be up to date and contain information relevant to the sixteen critera. This includes how often you come into contact with body fluids, working conditions, how much responsibility you have, etc.

You will receive information about A4C with the ballot paper, read it make a judgement and decide.

Well today the Ballot papers from Unison arrived for their second vote and "shock horror" they are recommending that all their members vote yes. This before most of the menbers have any idea as to where they are going to fit on the new pay scale. Our hospital secretarial staff are likely to end up on a £1000 a year less and the union wants them to accept this. How to lose staff very quickly.

Only Amicus and Unison are balloting staff not RCN. The RCN has already agreed to A4C.
The lowest paid staff who are union members at all hospitals will vote for this as the NHS minimum wage will increase under A4C.
The government has previously stated that if either Unison or Amicus vote against A4C it will not go forward to national rollout.
There will be winners and losers from this system and everyone should be trying to limit the number of losers.
Unfortunately I believe it will be voted for and so we will all have to live with it.
In JD's I keep seeing for medical engineers from around the country there is a distinct lack of clear information about people duties that a layman could understand (the matchers and Evaluators probably won't understand some of the terminology). The other line is any other duties as deemed commensurate with this grade by manager. This cannot be in ANY JD as cannot be quantified and scored, the duties MUST be spelled out.
WRITE YOUR OWN JOB DESCRIPTION before your manager does.

I would like to know how many of the early implementor sites have graded their medical engineers. At the begining of September we had our jaq interviews an still do not know where we will be graded.Reading the messages on this site seem to indicate alot of guess work and scare mongering, maybe we should wait until the early implementors have been graded and hear their views
before jumping to conclusions.

Have a nice day and don't panick to much

I am inclined to agree with you Richard, a lot os "scare mongering" indeed.
However, having read most of the posts regarding A4C, I think I may have been to hasty in putting my JD forward. Still, I can always appeal....:~/

I'm an Amicus member and haven't received a voting form yet. Those of you who have been asked to vote, when is the deadline?
I still don't see how the Unions can ballot on this when only a handfull of us know what our salaries will be. Who would vote to accept AfC with their future financially uncertain, surely most would reject it.

My personal opinion is that this vote is irrelevant, AfC is coming.
The Unions have been involved in the creation of AfC from the start, how would it look if their members voted to reject it?
Would the Government want AfC to collapse when they have invested lots of effort & resources, especially in the run up to a General Election?

We are not expecting to receive our bandings till nearer Christmas and we are supposed to be an EI site!
