papajo, I agree we should do the tasks our line managers expect if it is within our job role. What I was pointing out was that a small number of nurses armed with degrees felt that it wasn't down to them to do the basic core nursing duties like change beds, wipe patients bums etc. As Robert has said making nursing a degree entry profession benefitted them, but did it benefit the patient?

My wife felt that constant battles with a few arrogant newly qualified nurses/student nurses to do the job they were employed to do just wasn't worth the hassle.

Graham is right, when I submit my application to HPC for SRCS it will cost me £300, if it gets approved I will then get charged £70 per year. Join the VRCT while u still have the chance.

As an example I am SR Clinical Scientist I was not on VR, applied late, paid £300 for the application, people on VR got in for £20. OK?
So this is written in stone then? If you are on the voluntary register then it will be easier and cheaper to gain state registration. Everything I have read regarding the Voluntary register states that transition MAY be easier. I am still very cynical about organisations taken money for no return. In my day they were called scam artists.
Next you will be telling me that we will get a fair deal from AFC. :p

Can anyone please explain how voluntary registration will affect AFC gradings as it is NOT a requirement for the job as present and it is supposed to be based on the requirements for the job being done?

It's not something you can teach. I am that damn good.

Aren't we going to run into the same problems with ebme techs ? All these degree qualified techs telling us what to do ? It's interesting that we have a couple of Clinical Scientists squabbling here, you guys may have a career path but the majority of people on this site are techs. Trust me there is no career path when you are an MTO especially here in Scotland. So again it comes back to What does State Registration do for me or the safety of patients ?

I disagree, I started off as an MTO2 and then MTO3. I was not put off applying for Clinical Scientist posts. If you can prove you have got what it takes then you will be taken seriously at interview and offered the job.

It happened to me, you make your own opportunities so take them when they come along.

Banana Man sorry Bioman, How many jobs have you ever seen advertised North of the border ? The nearest Medical Physics departments are sixty miles away in Dundee or one hundred and twenty miles away in Inverness. Youcertainly won't progress here from MTO to scientist without a degree.

I see your point.

Out of interest, doesn't Aberdeen have a Medical Physics dept headed by Prof Peter Sharp? or am I mistaking it with another scottish teaching Trust. And isn't Mike Nielman Head of Electronics there.

Just remember the name of Prof Sharp as he was a former president of IPEM and Aberdeen is a Clinical Scientist training centre. I had contact with Mike in a previous job.

Just thought it was strange you saying your closest Med Physics dept was miles away when you had one on your doorstep.
