MTO2 now? ONC req. for post stated as essential on your job spec. Limited freedom to act,'cos you are supervised,(how ever little)forget the other factors, they mean small points, all equals band 4.
MTO3 now? Well to obtain band 5 you req. an HND.
in electronics and near total freedom to act.
If any one out there has overcome these obstacles
please, please let me know how, because I am staring band4 in the face and a pay cut.
p.s. I put these facts to an Amicus full time officer a while back, his answer was engineering has had it good for the last ten years, now it is someone elses turn.In other words there is only so
much money in the NHS pot,now it will be shared different than before.
Yours totaly peed off,
Tony.

Tony,
I would complain about your rep and his attitude. As has been said in other threads "What do we pay our union dues for?" Well, support and advice when we need it is one thing.
People keep on emphasising here you have the right to work as a partnership to get your AfC grading sorted out and those in a union have a lot of professional help to help them.
I would advise getting your job description and going through it thoroughly to make sure it is scoring as many points as possible. To score it properly you need the support of someone in the know - your union rep. If they cannot or will not help go to your national officer. I have found them very hepfull in the past. And keep going higher till you get someone to help you.
And complain about the blokes attitude as well, I would not say techs have been well off up to now, and even if we had that is no reason to not help you.
Best of luck.
Robert

Well Off ! !

Then how come I've lost so many techs to the private sector because they can earn up to £7,000 more out there ? - and that's without getting called out at 2.00am to mend a child's ventilator confused

If engineering has had it so good in the past, why do we need Recruitment & Retention premium ? ? mad

Going back to Tony original point,

How do leap to the next band:

MTO-2 will go to band 4 with an ONC
MTO-3 will go to band 5 with an HNC
MTO-4 will go to band 6 with an HND/BEng

Is there any way to do night school, or is it do more training short at Falfield or Capital Group.

I am lucky enough to be already on MTO-3 with an ONC, and is desbratly hope I will not be knock down a grade. I would like to know how to leap up a grade to band 6.

Thank you

Dont worry

All our MTO3 have been told and promised by the bosses that we will be on band 6, band 7 if we push it. AFC, bring it on I say.

Interesting comment bobbyp.
Is it possible to see a job description for an MTO3
at your trust?
What qualifications are listed as essential for the post?
Tony.

If an MTO3 is on a grade 7 where will the MTO4s and 5s go?
I think this may lead to some upset if they are all on the same band and then all catch up to each other over the years

Unless your bosses are on the matching and evaluating panel then I suspect it just an idle promise. I assume they will not be allowed to as you are likely to be matched or evaluated by somebody who knows nothing about what you do i.e. a nurse, physio, manager from a different discipline etc.

Good luck all the same

Bristol, do you work for either Bev Hemmings or Peter Smithson?

Hello all ,
this is my first visit as a member to this site. I am an amicus rep at my trust and for my sins I am also on the AfC project group .

You are all if I may say making fundamental errors in equating MTO grades to AfC bandings.

Everyone will be matched via agreed job descriptions the postholder should be fully included in the writing of the JD and should not have a JD handed to him/her.

The JD should accurately reflect the duties of the postholder over the last twelve months, therefore if the duties carried out are those of a specialist nature, then the matching panels should score them accordingly.

If you do not agree with your job description DO NOT SIGN IT!! you can present your own job description to a matching panel .you will of course need to present anecdotal evidence of the duties you have undertaken.

Finally it should be noted that it is not necessary to have HND/Degree equivalent experience is relavent

Regards
John
