I have read a few messages regarding training on medical devices and CNST requirements.
I have been working on a Generic Template for Competency Based Training that can be applied to any medical device. Once applied to a device, you can then identify both performance (what is done with the hands) and knowledge (what is retained in the brain)to any professional to prove competency. You can also identify who is or is not allowed to use it and those who are able to train another person.
It is still in its' development stage but it is a starting point.
I am also combining this with interactive training using images on a computer allowing professionals to train on a device even before they have touch it (again, still in its' infancy).
Has any one else tried this approach?
Are any hospitals or more importantly companies who would be interested in seeing what is developed so far and helping in taking this further?
I do feel that companies should get together and along with their sales give competency based training that can be continued within the hospital to a national standard framework.
Please contact me for more information or if any organisation would like a talk demo on this.

Tony,
Our training officer is working on a training package which meets the user needs. All the nurses use the actual equipment and are assessed during the training session.

I am interested in your methods. We are quite happy to share.

You can speak to me or Huw Evans on 01279 827533.

Tony,

I am one of the Customer Support Engineers for Graseby Medical, and as you are probably aware we have been providing competancy-based training for a number of years on our range of infusion devices and monitors.

We would be very interested in sharing our experience, and as you say help in taking it further.

Our Clinical Services Manager is Sue Fillingham and she can be contacted on 01923 475812 or sue.fillingham@graseby.co.uk. She would be interested in discussing this further with you.

If you have any other questions please contact me on 01923 475906 or paul.camidge@graseby.co.uk.

Paul.
