As far as the continent is concerned a scotsman is something you use to beat an englishman over the head with.

My opinion is that England and Scotland are both the stonger for their links and if they are dumb enough to really seperate they can look forward to a future of BOTH being thoroughly shafted by their continental neighbours.

I'm English and I have no problems with being British.

I support the policy of the French Interior Minister - why can't our government do the same?

Cheers

If you know the rules and you are aware of the consequences, where's the problem?

Oh, and 90 days' sounded very good to me.

Cheers

There,ll Always be an England
And England shall be Free
If England means as much to you
As England means to me.

Nice one, Mate. But, as I’ve probably said before, it seems to me that the England that you and I love may not exist anymore. Most of the things I was brought up to appreciate are now either illegal, or “banned” or otherwise not politically correct (sic). For better or worse (and for reasons that have yet to be explained to me), we now live in a “modern multicultural society”. Must have missed the referendum on that one when I was overseas, I suppose. The countryside has been castrated to make way for one giant-size theme park, complete with plastic sheep. The traditional values of being dogged, decent and loyal have given way to an insane scrabble for material wealth at all costs. Just being known as a decent bloke no longer cuts the mustard, as it were. In fact decent blokes get laughed at these days by the hordes of young ****ers encountered wherever you go. And now we have Christmas (if I may still call it that) coming up. Another obscene orgy of acquisition and disappointment. Frankly, I despise the whole thing. However, I’m still looking, and, paradoxically, Scotland may yet be the place to be! Guess I’d better go and get an over-priced cup of tea (before that’s banned as well)! frown

Its still possible to sell your three-bed semi in England and buy a stately home up here, but please do a bit of research first as we also have no-go areas...

Personally, I like England.. Every year we spend weeks camping around Canterbury (Kentish ale ROCKS!!) or Sevenoaks (War&Peace Military vehicle show) and also in Henley-on-Thames/Hurley as its only a six hour trip from where we live in SW Scotland.

Maybe I'm only seeing the nicer areas, but I find the people/climate/food/beer most agreeable and in fact I have a large postcard of the Angel-on-the-Bridge pub in Henley in front of me as I type, to remind me of where I would be very happy to retire to (I wish!)...

There are assholes everywhere who can't or won't appreciate the impact their selfish lives have upon everyone else and as such don't deserve to live in such a free society as ours, but don't knock it, you have a great country and plenty to enjoy and be proud of..

Hey, Mr. Exitwound, any idea how to deal with the assholes, then?

Yes, England is a great country, but I can’t overcome the feeling that our past is greater than our future. It has already become what I can only describe as bland, with most high streets indistinguishable from any other. With deep regret, my crystal ball shows it becoming just a few regions of the European superstate. With luck, I will have moved on to that great biomed workshop in the sky by then.

Personally, I have yet to set foot in Scotland, but am seriously considering heading North come the spring. I understand that it’s great biker country up there, and that could well be the craic. smile

Well you have a real treat in store, just don't rush it, pray for decent weather and although there's more to do on the east coast, the trip from Glasgow by Loch Lomond, up to Fort William, than up to Ullapool and beyond to Tongue is awesome.. That last bit is reckoned to one of the ten best drives in the world... I imagine there's plenty of biker touring info on the web, go for it!

This is where I go for my "out of season crap weather break!" You can't beat a good storm! £55 for 3 nights b&b..

Thanks for the info. Yes, and good old Dad was right, wasn't he? But why lumber Oz with all our home-grown dross, I wonder? Why not the Shetland Islands or some such place? smile
