Can you guys tell me how can I gain better access too Equipment in order to complete my service visits?, (mainly theatres).
If I arrange it with specific theatre staff they are conveniently not available when I arrive. Or the promised audit day, does not actually mean that the thaetres are closed!
I know when I worked as a Biomed that access was a big problem, what can you suggest?
thanks........

Work more overtime so you can get there "out of hours" i.e. after the lists have finished !
Sundays are usually a pretty good bet, too.

I'd agree with Roy, if you want to get the work done, you sometimes have to work out of hours. i.e. evenings or weekends.
Overtime or time off in lieu is normally acceptable.

Yes time off in lieu is only what I get!, and working past 5.00pm most evenings is my norm, but sometimes I would like too get access just occassionally in normal working hours!; my wife thinks I'm just a lodger because of my un-social hours!
But thanks anyway guy's....

we have a structured programme of theatre closure at dewsbury where we can have acess to all equipment for ppm, etc. normally friday to sunday. we do it all on a friday.

meet with your estates and theatres manager, discuss the importance of it and agree on a programme.

Can we bring this one back into play, guys? It seems that we haven’t really settled the problem of how to deal with access for maintenance, especially in the operating theatres.

In one place where I worked (and was “in charge”, so to speak), I placed one of my blokes permanently in the theatres suite. In the morning he came in and got changed into his greens (well, blues), and spent all day in there, doing good deeds. If he needed help, one of us (me, usually), would go up, get changed, and do the needful.

Of course, as we all know, getting changed into scrub suits is really the issue. How many times have we all done this just to take a look at “the problem”, and then had to go out again to get the right tools etc. A real pain.

Personally, I like the idea of having a little base within the theatres suite (a place to keep the cart, some tools and test equipment, and service consumables, parts etc.). Plus having a guy posted there. Equipment can then easily be grabbed, mainly because our guy effectively becomes part of the group working in the theatres.

I have found that maintenance of equipment in the theatres actually leaves a lot to be desired (yes, in the very place where it should be top-notch).

So, come clean, guys – what’s the current state of play on this issue? smile

On a more serious note, I,ve also worked where Thursdays were cleaning days, weekends and evenings, well latest actually 2 in the morning, but it got the job away. Job satisfaction came into it also. T.

Well done, Tony, for spotting my Freudian Slip (deliberate, of course). Those hospitals were well-maintained and spotlessly clean too, were they not? (…so much for the so-called Third World).

In response to your last post (as it were), I would say - are there many like you still around, I wonder? smile
