My advice on this issue is that a hospital needs all of the above! You basically need a mix of all available disinfecting and sterilizing technologies in order to meet the demands placed upon modern CSSD’s, TSSU’s (or whatever). Unfortunately, there is no one magic “silver bullet” on this one, Sajeev! Take care, though, not to over-do things. Some of the latest disinfecting agents are very aggressive, and certainly can be a maintenance headache (ie, they can attack the machine as much as they attack the bugs)! One last comment would have to be that a lot depends upon the quality of the CSSD staff. This might sound obvious, but think again! From my own observations, a lot of these guys reside firmly in the past! A wise man one said “If your only tool is a hammer, then all your problems look like nails”! smile

Dear Sir,
Thanks for your reply.Sterilox is projected in our part very heavily now as a replacement for ETO and plasma and steris system-1(Sterilant).Especially in endoscopy sterilisation. In our part of the world the endoscopy sterilisation(disinfection?) is not up to the level, its only a dip of Gluteraldihide and a rinse with filtered water. But this product look good. It can be used for dermatology and wound care treatment too hence i feel this disinfecting agent is not very agressive as you mentioned.Have you used this equipment?
I would like to hear more about this product.

As I hinted at a few minutes ago, my best suggestion would be to spend some time searching the web. I find that user forums are the most “real world”, and therefore useful, whilst avoiding the propaganda spewed out by manufacturers. smile

Beware, some flexible endoscope companies will invalidate warranty or service contract if it has been processed with Sterilox. The solution causes discoloration which may be harmless but the scope manufacturers will do anything to wiggle out of its obligations.

make sure you get written confirmation from supplier that they authorise the use of sterilox.

Good luck

Such systems are very expensive (choice and installation of washer disinfectors and to run) so its important make the right choice.
Bioman makes a good point, its worth contacting your scope suppliers as scopes can become dammaged and you could face hefty bills for resheathing.

To overcome possible damage some companies (disinfectant systems)have introduced conditioning wipes, which are used prior to disinfection, but this is labour intensive and slows down reprosessing.

We use Sterilox and Steris on Fujinon,Pentax and Olympus flex scopes no problems so far with service contracts but did inform each company of method of sterilisation. Here each unit looks after it’s own scopes and has dedicated trained staff.HSDU/CSSD staff do not process flex scopes only ridgeds.

If you can't dazzle 'em with brilliance..
Baffle 'em with bullshit.
