I think we need to consider that many of these larger companies are made up of a conglomerate of smaller companies. Drager and Siemens have merged. GE bought Datex Ohmeda, formerly known as Ohmeda.... I am sure there are many more.
Acquisition is not only only Tyco's domain.

Indeed, John. But back in the days of the British Oxygen Company, it was all about manufacturing. These days it’s all about mergers and acquisitions!

These days it’s all about being able to send native files to external suppliers, apparently. But don’t just take my word for it, check-out this link!

But will the new identity be an improvement, I wonder, Andy? Perhaps they're hoping for the "luck of the Irish", eh? Anyway, we wish them continued success. Meanwhile, it looks like they're getting rid of kit at give-away prices!

Hi all, Cliff Juby here again. For those that know it will not be a suprise, for those that don't I created Beaver Medical in 1992 with help from Hewlett Packard. Their Medical Director got fed up with my maverick ways, not the HP way. The rest is history but a little known story is the one about the HP Machanical Sector Obstetric Ultrasound system. After our success with Defibs and ECG machines HP asked me to do some market research for their new Obstetric Ultrasound System. I was doing well until I had to demonstrate the Vaginal probe, holding it out in front of my face at arm's length to show the rocker on the tip a lady in the audience tittered and mentioned under her breath 'Beaver', I turned pink the whole audience collapsed with hysterics and the presentation was over. My advice to HP was that the product was unsuitable and they canned it.
The name Beaver Medical was good for us, it never got forgotten and was a great ice breaker because poeple always wanted to know where it came from. Thats my secret. CJ

In a previous company, we had a software system called Beaver . A few of you may know it. One day the system was down and a young tech (James ;)) who was a bit green asked the (attractive) finance girl when she came into the workshop if her Beaver was working today. I think you can imagine the rest.
It is better to be reactive than radioactive...
