Today the company sent a service engineer to carry out EST the ECG monitor. It failed there own EST. The ECG monitor passed the other parts of the safety test with no problems. The company is running two different IEC 601-1 standards.
Workshop engineers are using a lower standard: 2 Mohms
Field engineers are using higher standard: 50 Mohms
Is it possible that the 2MOhm minimum limit is actually that for L/N-Earth (Class 1 devices) and the 50MOhm limit is for AP-Earth (Class 1, BF/CF)?
Most "'60601-1 compliant" medical grade electrical safety testers in common use (that I'm familiar with anyhow - about 5 types) test L/N-E for all class 1 devices and AP-Earth for class 1 BF or CF if they're indicated.
It's likely, I think, that a bit of confusion as to what the safety testers are measuring may be complicating the issue. Do the field engineers use a different safety tester than the workshop engineers by any chance?
