Good day all.

I'm currently working as a Biomedical Technologist II at St. Joseph's Healthcare in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. I have 15 years experience in the field.

I'm just wondering what the job prospects are like in the UK for Biomedical Engineering any chance of work for in this area for someone like myself. What requirements would be necessary or should I not even bother looking.

regards
Peter

There is the jobs but the housing is expensive not as cheap as the housing in your neck of the woods.

I happened to have flown into JC Munro in the summer nice place why would you want to leave. I have relatives in Georgetown.

Fuel with you a dollar, fuel with us 2+ dollars.

Wages here for biomed £16k-£30k depending on length of servive and which band you go for or get the opertunity to go for. Whats the wages like there.

Try a search on the NHS job site.

good luck billy

Hi Billy,

I have been with the same employer now for 15 years and I'm now thinking it's time for a change of environment.

I'm aware that things in the UK are about double the cost of items here in Canada. It would cost approx. $2.00 Canadian to buy one British Pound.

I'm not familiar with the "band" system. We don't have that over here. We rate a Biomed by their education (technician, technologist, engineer) and by their work experience. Take me for example, I graduated in 92 as a Electronics Tech, started here at St. Joe's and through reclassification of my job and work experience I"m now considered a Biomed Technologist II.

Seems to me that you guys need to arrange a swap! wink

The grass may indeed be greener in England, but it sure gets cold in Ontario! Why do you imagine that they pay more in Canada, samnova? They will pay the going rate, just like everywhere else in the world where market forces prevail.

As I've mentioned before, I would urge any biomed with wander lust to consider a spell of work in places where there is a desperate need for their services. Do a bit of charity work in Africa, for example. Then when you come back, you'll realise that things are not quite so bad at home after all. smile

Charity doesnt pay the mortgage or give you a better standard of living. What you want is a good disposible income.

As for africa for charity work, not a good place to go with all the nutters with machetees and cival unrest. Plus to many things that bite.

Its not so much about money but a change of environment. Don't you think it will be adviceable to know more about the new place?
