Dr Haylett is usually right about things but I was thinking his estimate was a bit high. I am looking at 7 of us for 250,000 population which comes out at about 1500. Mind you Estates look after some stuff here (depends how far you stretch the definition) so I guess you could up it to about 2000. Maybe double that if you include the private sector, so I would say 3-5 thousand.

Hello there everybody;
I`m a biomedical engineering student from Turkey and this is my last year in the school. Actually nowadays I can`t figure out how will I work after the school. I mean in Turkey electronics engineers are doing my job and this really irritates me mad But I guess I`ll try to adapt to this situation. Is it like that in your countries as well, or is it like that only in my country? frown
Also I want to attend to a master education programme but I`m not sure about that. What would you suggest?
Thanks a lot...

Can’t see your problem Akin. What’s wrong with the idea of electronics engineers doing biomedical engineering? In my experience, most biomeds have a background in electronics of one sort or another. I assume we are talking about the repair and maintenance of medical equipment here? If you are just starting out, I would advise you to do some actual hands-on work in a hospital somewhere to see if you actually like it (I have seen quite a few guys who found that they didn’t really like it after all)! Then, after a while, you’ll be in a better position to decide what to do next. smile

Anyone with any sort of update on this topic? smile

I know a few with split personalities! Do they count?
But seriously I have often wondered! I like to think we are a special breed!

Only if his name is Louis!

But, yes, a special breed. At least I like to think so (too). smile

This is a question we asked a while ago in a vain attempt to open the eyes of the VRCT (not raised that one for a while!). You could ask Jim & co. Divide their number by two then multiply by about five. That might give you an idea of the number of UK NHS biomeds.

It shouldn't be too hard to arrive at a reasonable estimate of biomed techs working in the UK NHS, I wouldn't have thought.

How many Trusts? How many hospitals of any size in each Trust grouping (on average)? Two, three? Again, on average, how many techs at each hospital? Five?

Here's a place to start crunching the numbers. Although it says "UK", that list looks like only England to me. smile

I believe there are approx 600 acute trusts with approx 8? staff in each hospital.
