We are striving to find out if there are industry players who sell generic external hardware to tap remote alarm connection for refrigerators and incubators that do not have such provisons in-built in the units itself. We have established such remote alarm connectivity with our BMS system for those refrigerators and incubators with in-built provisions but we are facing problems with older units which don't have such provisions. Basically, what we require to monitor are low/high temperature alarms and power failure alarm.

Could some one share his/her expertise in this challenging project ? Be it wired or wireless....

It seems to be a difficult task. If such add-on remote alarm circuitry installed to such old-generation refrigerators causing any damage or incident to the facility inside the hospital the manufacturer / supplier will not bear the responsibility. It is not wise to do so, i think.

In the past we have used security auto-diallers wired to the alarm systems of such equipment, via a suitable interface such as a relay or opto-isolator, and programmed to send a cheery message to a nominated telephone or pager number to alert the appropriate member of staff.

It might also be worth taking a look at www.electronicsforu.com (they still do “hands-on” in India!) smile

Thanks everyone,

New Subject : Alarm monitoring gadget for Refrigerators without any alarms at all

Is there any low/high alarm and power failure monitoring instrument which could monitor any kind of alarms for those refrigerators without inbuilt alarms( similar to domestic refrigerator). For whatever reason, our hospital bought domestic refrigerators/ refrigerators without in-built alarms in the past and now we are hunting for instrument to monitor temprature and power failure using a probe. This is required by accreditation bodies. Any experts in this area ?

Cheers
Sen
