Not to mention the blue LED's glowing away on the underside of your Lexus, Alan! Or hasn't that one caught on out there yet? But wait, didn't it originate out in Riyadh, or some such place, where idle hands and money seem to go, er, hand in hand? Remember ... many hands make light work! smile

Meanwhile, I'm now looking forward very much to the onset of Winter ... just can't wait for my extremities to turn that rather fetching shade of blue!

Stop teasing Geoff, it's still 40 degrees celsius in my part of the world. Its cooler now though and can't wait for November and December and on to the cold on January. grin

unfortunately i dont have a lexus, i'm saving up for a 2009 Nissan GT-R . I've checked one out at the local dealership and I feel plasma / neon/ LED under car kit would complement the car (and a set of really loud speakers!). By the time i saved enough, the 2009 model will be really cheap ... smilewink

As much as i like blue LEDs on equipment, i like these things even more. Some models can cut black electrical tape and i think it'll be really handy when you're doing some splicing work (Do you think that reason could fly by my boss to approve purchase?) whistle. And reading thru all those nanometers stuff reminds me that i have to read up on green lasers as we have one coming for the urology.

I like to think that I'm a reasonably tolerant guy, but if it's one thing that gets my goat, it's that. Why do these morons have those mega-watt speakers boom-boom-booming out of their crappy little "boy racer" cars? Is it just the "hey, look at me being cool" thing? To me, that really is sad! Personally, I prefer the guy (quietly) playing about with his blue LED's.

Don't waste your money Alan. No-one (with half a brain) will be impressed! smile

More sadness:- in the UK the Neds like those laser pointing devices too. They enjoy using them to shine into the cockpits of aircraft as they come into land. Probably the same wastrels who zoom around in socially unacceptable motor vehicles.

Picking up on your point Geoff regarding the sad little spotty youths in their tarted up Nove/Saxo/106, why do they insist on having their windows down as well?
On a serious note, it is now illegal for the morons to have this pollution inflicted on joe public, but as usual the police will not enforce it.

This is no worse than those plonkers with Harley's who put on noisy exhausts - I am glad I don't live next door to one of them.

I can only but agree with the previous two posts. I have also pressed such points (and others) on the rare occasions that I have encountered "bobbies" out on the street, only to be informed that the Traffic Division is "aware of such issues, but only have limited resources with which to deal with them" (etc.).

Meanwhile, can I also add Rottweilers and "Staffies" to the list of sad persons' fashion accessories? smile

My big, burly, jolly, local Plod tells me (with some degree of authority, I might add) that it's "all a question of decibels"! I guess he means that the large exhausts actually emit a low frequency noise that falls below the legal dB limit. Does anyone have all this "chapter and verse", as it were?

Meanwhile, my own take is that a Public Nuisance is just that (regardless of "dB levels" and all the rest). Around here we also enjoy the spectacle of youths (and kids, even) roaring around the streets on unlicensed motor-bikes (noisy, of course), without helmets, popping wheelies (skillfully, I'll admit), in fact without any sort of care at all. Needless to say, the Plod do know about it (if only because I've told them), but as usual, nothing seems to get done. Perhaps we have to wait until someone gets maimed or even killed. frown

Guilty I’m afraid! And yes they do (my pipes) emit less overall noise than a regular bike due to the lower frequency! The DB meter used to measure the "noise" takes a time dependent average so even though the sound pressure amplitude may be greater the actual emitted sound waves are fewer so the overall “average” SPL integral is less.

Please consider that to some of us the “Harley” sound is an acquired taste. I also like girls in skimpy summer dresses walking down the street but to a certain group of beards here it is considered an outrage! Its all a matter of taste really! Isn’t it?

Doing your own thing is fine (by me), just as long as it doesn't irritate the ***** out of everybody else.

"Live and let live" is the Golden Rule (and I should know, as I have Lithuanians on one side, Pakistanis on the other, Polish upstairs and Croatians across the road). Love thy neighbour! smile

More on Harleys:- as an ex-motorbike enthusiast myself, I know a bit about bikes. I have noticed that there are many, many more H-D's about in England these days. Why is that? Similar sorts of reasons as to why there are more "butch" dogs about, I should imagine (read into that whatever thou wilst).

But the good news is:- the low frequency (tractor-like) rumblings (grunts?) of the hogs are counter-balanced by the high frequency din from the "twist and go" scooters. Either way, it's excessive and objectionable noise. frown

Meanwhile, anyone else with any "sad person" stories to tell (before I relate a few of my own)?

Sorry Eddie, but unmodified Harley's are OK - They are noisy but acceptable. If the Modified exhausts are legal, then why do the offenders who change the exhaust have to put the original exhaust back on to get it through the MOT? It is because they would not pass - pure and simple...

Perhaps Harleys are an acquired taste.
After all they have been around forever.
Or is it just Some people are afraid of change and don’t want to move with the times, most call them “The old trying to re- capture their long lost youth”

Some people collect just as noisey bikes, like old triumphs etc.
But I guess they just like British noisy bikes.
And don’t love our comrade’s bikes across the pond as much.
