Hi MichS,

Welcome to the forum!

How many types of kits do you manage? What do you reckon is the correct size of the staff for the equipment library? Factors such as size of the hospital (number of beds), types of patients (children, maternity), etc. Do you have a system that ward staff decontaminate the kits after each use and put onto the collection shelf, etc. Are all these covered by the biomed dept or just the equipment library alone.

Hope to learn from your experience.

Make the impossible POSSIBLE. I know we all can and it is the wisdom to distinguish one from the other.

jolee, i have left clues not too criptic in an attempt to reveal myself to you.
Am going to have to march down and reveal myself in person soonish!

biomedbill, personally i would sign for a bit of kit on behalf of our dept, but i would not take singular responsibility for it.
This is simply because when i have finished my shift i have no control over what happens to that kit. If i go on Annual leave, i cannot be held to ransom over it going to another dept with the patient in my absence.
What reuslts is a paper excersize where staff have to sign a bit of paper at every shift to say that it is still in use on that patient, it gets daft, add that bit of paper to all of the other bits of paper that we have to sign in one shift and eventually we may get to actually care for a patient!
I absolutely take the point that when no one takes ownership, things slip and kit will get lost. I am just saying that from a shop floor workers perspective, if this is the route you are going to take, it will more than likely fail for the reasons mentioned.

Patients get signed over at shift change (I hope), so why not the kit? What's "daft" about it? smile
