Hi this is a project started by a "friend" of mine ninja

By the end of the week there will be in excess of 1500 service manuals (old and new)! Anyone wishing to help administer this library can contact admin through the site!

Also if anyone has some PDF or other digital manuals apparently you can email them to admin@mediserver.org

UBB code is not working on this thread??? so here is the link

http://mediserver.org/

Enjoy

Eddie

It may be better to move this topic elsewhere, Mate (no UBB etc.).

Interesting! But let's mention straight away the legality, copyright etc. issues that have always dampened enthusiasm for such noble gestures in the past. smile <--- no UBB

But how come there isn't a link back to *this* site?

Allegedly "my friend" received a number of replies from the said companies stating that as it is for "non profit" they wouldn't object! If anyone has a problem I am sure the admin will be kind enough to remove the offending document! Anyway, I am sure they wont object to "obsolete equipment" manuals being posted!

Now where's our UBB code Huw?!

Yes, there is a real need. I even get the odd appeal from old buddies for manuals myself. Guys out in Africa, the Philippines and places like that. Something like this would make a *real* difference, and I'm 100% in favour.

Some others may mention "how do we stop this information falling into the wrong - unskilled - hands"? So, let's get that one out of the way, too.

As I may have mentioned before, I would be willing to go around trawling up old manuals, and (I suppose) "scanning them in" ... but if "non profit" means "working for nothing", then my tank is already running on empty in that regard, I'm afraid.

Here's the word:- sponsorship! smile <--- still no UBB

Its actually possible to get your hands on any manual possible! Whether bumming them here or searching the net! They are everywhere! Philip's actually provided manuals for "my friends" project!
Sponsorship is a great idea but maybe the waters need to tested first! For now though, if anyone has any PDF or other digital manuals, user or maintenance! Please send them to admin@mediserver.org

I can get hold of old manuals (so can most people reading this, if they care to bother). And I believe that it's the older manuals that are often the most sought after. How about shipping out a forty-foot container load for "your friend" to scan in? smile <--- still no UBB

Lol too funny! Maybe concentrate on already digitized manuals for now! I notice there must already be a number of "scanned" manuals being distributed via this very site! Please feel free to send a copy to admin@mediserver.org. It only takes seconds and can really help some of our less fortunate friends out in the wilderness!

Also, there is a certain shed in Harlow which could act as the repository (central library) for donated manuals. From there they could be catalogued, and listings made available right here ... and then scanned in as volunteers' time permits! smile <--- ditto

Hi Geoff, this is something I have been thinking about for a long time! I think its only when you work in the "world wide field" you realize the importance of information (or lack of in most cases"). A centralized library is a godsend to us biomeds over here. I hear the same from most other ex pat techies too!

You're preaching to the converted here, Mate. Don't forget the needs of the various medical charity groups too.

Meanwhile, whilst you have been thinking about it out there, some of us back here have been pondering away also. A few of us are keen on the idea of supporting biomed techs worldwide and in general, and have come to realize that the "new technology" affords opportunities not possible previously.

We need a decent shed, a place to work. And we need funding. I am hoping that one day (let it be soon), one or more of the companies will be able to put their hands in their pockets, and write it off against tax, "goodwill", "spreading the word" or whatever. smile <--- still no news?
