That's a nice story. I remember stripping down a small dental x-ray tube and mounting the guts of it on a piece of wood (complete with engraved brass plaque) and presenting it to our Officer Commanding when he retired. The target (anode) was still bright and shiny, and the whole thing looked quite nice.
Unfortunately (despite having been in charge - well, nominally, at least) of our Electro-Med Workshop for a number of years, he didn't have a clue what it was. When I think back, perhaps it was this occasion that saw the genesis of my disillusionment!
