First bits of kit that I worked on were a Cape-Waine anaesthetic ventilator (had to fix the emergency Oxygen valve) and Lucas Mk.1 dialysis machine (the same Lucas that made square 8 spot and fog lamps!!!!)

We had a consultant anaesthetist who would not let us replace his Cape-Waine (it was an ideal height and slope to rest his Sporting Post on), even though the other anaesthetic machines had been standardised with a new model.

When he retired we stripped out the insides of the Cape-Waine and it was presented to him as a drinks cabinet for his leaving present.

That's a nice story. I remember stripping down a small dental x-ray tube and mounting the guts of it on a piece of wood (complete with engraved brass plaque) and presenting it to our Officer Commanding when he retired. The target (anode) was still bright and shiny, and the whole thing looked quite nice.

Unfortunately (despite having been in charge - well, nominally, at least) of our Electro-Med Workshop for a number of years, he didn't have a clue what it was. When I think back, perhaps it was this occasion that saw the genesis of my disillusionment! frown

Hi Geoff

You know old Terence of Arabia will always be one of the "Brothers" but as I get older, and supposedly wiser, my cynical side kicks in and there's little in this world that doesn't involve alot of crap or B****X!

Hello Mate. As I have advised more than a few times on this forum before ... just take what is good (that is, what you need) and reject the rest!

A bit like the x-ray tube I have just alluded to, when I come to think of it. Over 99% of the energy used (to generate the magic rays) gets wasted in heat!

Concentrate on the one percent. Or, put another way, "Keep the Faith"! smile

Hi Geoff
You may not remember this but at the KKNGH I had the task of mounting a Saudi Princes infected appendix in a perpex case , all slotted onto a polished mahogany base.

Its probably still sitting on the coffe table in his Majlis Room!
