If you go back to JoLee's original post, I don't think she is thinking in terms of techs being trained on maintaining kit. frown

Litigation? What litigation? Don't tell me that's about to raise it's ugly head again!

Yes, funding "Jollies" by way of the Lottery is fine by me. That way I don't get to pay. smile

Neither am I - but I like the idea.

Perhaps this could be a use for the long forgotten wiki?

Not forgotten. Just not taken up. Too much trouble, I should imagine. frown

Just like JohnBhoy's idea of a courses list. No doubt it would start off fine and dandy ... but would it be kept up-to-date? It all means work for somebody, after all.

However, I see that you've just added a Training Courses section within the wiki, Huw ... so hopefully I'll be proved wrong!

Well - that's always the way. Someone has to commit to the idea.

Yes, but not only commit to the idea, but take ownership of it too. Most folk (me included) just don't have the time to spare, I should imagine.

But ... if we all did a little, then (collectively) we could do a lot! smile

I seem to have at least opened up a discussion which is fab! Knowledge in whatever form is an essential part of keeping skills up to date, including manuals, training courses etc. I was referring though to professional sites for engineers ( or something of that ilk), plus up to date medical device news etc. Does this make sense or does this not exist? Just cos I'm knowledge officer (and ex librarian) does not mean I automatically KNOW the places that exist - I ferret around but asking the people who do the job seemed the most sensible option?
I appreciate that the time to collate information is not something people have - that's the job of the knowledge management officer - I've yet to re organise the manuals for the boys and get them on shelves - we just moved premises - groan! However from today I am on 2 weeks leave - what a blow grin laugh

As I say:- the Internet. There are many sites. Lots of newsletters too (which I guess is what you're really talking about). You can even access them when you're away from work!

Here's another. And this one, even. As I say, there's a load of this stuff out there. Plus a zillion forums, tech and otherwise. You can arrange to receive a customised ("personalized") newsletter from many of them. Usually free of charge (and paid for, supposedly, by the advertising content). The only problem is finding the time to check it all out (but, there again, that's going to be your job ... that is, to filter the wheat from the chaff)!

But, surely, all anyone needs is this very forum? smile

PS: when you get around to sorting out those manuals, don't forget to list all details in a database (or, if you insist, Excel spreadsheet). Also, place all surpluses to one side, then let me know and I'll come and take them off your hands!

The problem with "new" service manuals is that the conclusion that they give to a fault is "call service engineer" Ciruit diagrams on new equipments are not that helpful as you need a microscope to find the components, maybe the way forward is to employ robotic diagnostics in the workshop and do repair work with the aid of a microscope and microscopic tools.
ps Have you looked at Auntminnie.com for info on Radiology equipment.

Perhaps it's getting near time to hang up (unplug?) your soldering iron, Mate. Or, if you want to keep your hand in (as it were), why not be like me and only work on "older" kit! smile

PS: yes, yet another newsletter possibility!
