Actualy the soldering iron was unplugged a long time ago, now I ride a desk most of the week, there are times however when I am required to diagnose faults, but they are becoming rarer. Tenders, planning and general management now. Planning to retire in a few years heading off East to where the sun shines a lot more.

Been there, done that, but came around full circle ... and the soldering iron is waiting for me as we speak! Now, where's my pipe ... ? smile

PS: there's usually a fair bit of sunshine out in Jeddah, if my memory serves me well!

JoLee, the thought occurs that one way for you to "spread the word", as it were, would be by way of a blog that all your gang can visit from time to time.

I have used Blogger myself, but (like everything else) it needs to kept on top of (that is, worked on almost daily) if it's to be of any real use (mine have lapsed a bit, I must admit). You really need to be sure you'll be able to commit to the time it all takes, on a regular basis.

Something for you to have a go at over the next couple of weeks, perhaps? smile

Hmm its a thought! I am familiar with blogger as Ive just set something up for myself - nothing to do with work! We have a knowledge managment website here, and this will be expanding to incorporate a collection of departmental newsletters - share and share alike - maybe there is scope for blog type knowlege sharing - thanks for the feedback and thoughts much appreciated! I am going to try and trawl through biomed stuff now I am back of leave, and try and beat my EBME pals into some form of response!

The trouble these days is that there are just too many blogs, newslists, websites, emails ... and all the rest, and it often feels like a full time job just struggling (and failing) to keep up with it all.

I know that "the secret" is to remain focused on what interests one (that is, you, me), but even that is easier said than done.

How many times have I fired up the computer, and ended up with yet another day gone and the "real work" still not done? And I know I'm not the only one (far from it).

Sometimes I imagine myself being very happy peeling potatoes (or whatever) in a Tibetan monastery or some such place, perched way up on top of a mountain, far away from all of it!

They say that "ignorance is bliss", and I reckon they have a point! smile

Hence the beauty of someone dedicated to gathering this type of info and putting it in one place?!

There is always that danger isnt there - but I am hoping that in conjunction with the engineers I work with that we can put together a workable system to facilitate personal development and evidence decisions. Maybe a tall order, but we can but try!

Two quick comments, if I may:-

1) I fondly recall the "good old days" when techs actually talked to each other!

2) Why can't we all keep up to date by sharing (information) on this very forum? smile

1. Aye I agree but people don't, and more importantly people hold close to their chests any info they think will benefit them - it's the "mine" mentality isnt it?

2 Agreed why can't it be done on here! Start a section that lists useful places to gopher, info etc - I'd be more than happy to "use" it to enhance the ability to search for latest info for my boys!

3. I am amidst a project to deal with these problems in house here in Blackpool - and I WILL share the results!

4. I will be distributing a questionnaire at the Forum day on this topic !

5. People do not like to admit that they do not know something! So they do NOT ask!
