But regarding your comments about "crisis point" (and similar):- in my (long) experience, most of that stuff is self-inflicted, believe me.

If biomeds hadn't always been, shall we say, a bit too weak (or, if you prefer, accommodating) there would not be so many fifty-year-old plus basket cases around as there are.

My advice is to find a way of coming to terms with it all, and do the work you love to do (hint: it may not be biomed). But if you must continue working at a hospital, just do what you can, refuse to be pressured, and let "them" do what the [censored] they want!

You can't fight them all; there are too many of them (and believe me I know ... I've tried, many times)! They are wrong, and we are right. But they will always "win".

Remember, you only get the one life. It is only short. So live it ... but on your own terms!

Its funny that I was talking to the local MP over something quite different this morning and it ended up as a lecture to him on why hospitals are wasting so much of tax payers money by not helping departments like ours. It could be seen as stirring by some but I'm attempting to be a little more pro-active and raise our concerns about the service we all provide and use.

Waste of time talking to MP's at the moment (if at all). The last time I spoke with an MP (Labour, North London) he backed away with his hands up. The guy just didn't want to listen. Meanwhile, our man around here (South Yorkshire) spends most of his time glad-handing with the so-called minority communities (of which we have rather more than our fair share), where he knows his votes may be guaranteed. Appalling people, the lot of them. Hopefully, they'll all be out on their ***** soon!

Well, I'm not sure there, where I used to work we used to take it in turns to be the blame person for the week, so whatever went wrong, it was only ever one persons fault. We could us an EXMP as the fall guy
